Protecting Your Environment Is Part of Building the Dream
For a long time, I underestimated how much my environment was shaping my thinking. Not my physical space but the people I spent time with. The conversations I had and the energy I allowed around me. Building HUMN has forced me to become more aware of this. When you’re creating something meaningful, your environment doesn’t just influence your mood. It influences your decisions, your confidence, and your ability to see what’s possible.
Environment Is the People You Keep
Your environment is not just where you live or work. It’s who you talk to regularly. It’s the tone of your conversations and the beliefs that get reinforced, intentionally or not. I didn’t fully realize this until I stepped away from a friend group that no longer aligned with where I was headed. There was no conflict or falling out. Just distance and with that distance came not just peace but it allowed me to think about my vision. Once I created space, my world expanded. I found myself surrounded by people in the health industry who were builders, operators, and long term thinkers. Conversations became deeper and ideas became sharper. The energy shifted in a way I didn’t even know I needed.
Energy Is Contagious
You ever leave a conversation with someone and you just feel exhausted?
Every person vibrates at a certain frequency. Some interactions leave you energized and grounded while others leave you drained, distracted, or second guessing yourself. Learning to pay attention to how people make you feel has been one of the most valuable skills I’ve developed. Not as a judgment but as information. Energy tells the truth faster than words ever will.
Protecting your environment means choosing to spend more time in rooms that elevate you. Rooms where curiosity is encouraged. Where ambition is met with support. Where people are actively building rather than criticizing from the sidelines or trying to compete with each other.
Choosing Better Rooms Changes Your Perspective
When you expose yourself to new rooms, you expand what you believe is possible. That’s exactly what happened when I leaned deeper into the health and wellness space. Being around people who were already living the kind of life I wanted to build opened my eyes. It changed how I thought about business, community, and service. It gave me new reference points for what success could look like. This shift has had a direct impact on how I’m building HUMN. The standards are higher. The conversations are more intentional. The vision feels clearer because it’s being shaped in the right rooms.
Protecting Your Environment While Building HUMN
As HUMN grows, protecting my environment has become a leadership responsibility. Not every conversation deserves access and not every opportunity is worth the energy it costs. This doesn’t mean cutting people out or closing yourself off. It means being honest about alignment and choosing relationships that support growth. Creating space for people who challenge you in the right ways.
Better environment = Better decisions.
Always Be Expanding
Protecting your environment is not about staying comfortable. It’s about continuing to evolve and leaving behind what no longer fits creates room for something better to enter. Every time I’ve been intentional about the people I surround myself with, my world has expanded. New ideas, relationships, and opportunities.
If you’re building something meaningful, your environment matters more than you think. Choose it with care and optimism and trust that putting yourself in better rooms will always lead you closer to the life you’re trying to build.
Remember, life doesn’t happen TO you it happens FOR you.
