The Synergistic Ecosystem

There is a version of my day that I still have to stop and appreciate…

In the morning, I might be sitting across from a CEO or an investor walking through the HUMN financial model, talking unit economics, capital deployment, and long-term expansion strategy. By lunch, I’m helping an athlete think through race preparation, training blocks, and how to mentally approach a competition. By dinner, I’m with an operator or a partner talking about where the health and wellness industry is heading and what the next five years look like for the premium consumer. Three completely different conversations, three completely different worlds, and I can feel my mindset shifting from category to category.

Three Worlds, One Perspective

Most people build a career in one lane. (and for the record, that is totally cool). They go deep in corporate, or they build an identity in athletics, or they develop expertise as an operator in their industry. That depth is valuable and it’s also limiting in ways that are hard to see from inside it. I ended up in all three lanes at the same time, not because I planned it that way but because each chapter of my life pulled me somewhere new and I said yes every time. Fourteen years in corporate tech building complex portfolios and executive relationships. Over 8 years as an athlete, trainer, and content creator living inside fitness culture. And now, as the founder and CEO of HUMN, sitting at the intersection of operators, partners, investors, and the consumer all at once. The result is a perspective that I genuinely believe is rare at the leadership level of this industry, and it is one of the things I lean on most as I build.

Why the Dots Keep Connecting

I have this feeling that keeps getting stronger the further into this build I get. Every previous chapter of my life is showing up in some form inside HUMN. The corporate experience taught me how to build a financial model, manage complex stakeholder relationships, and think about scale. The athletic identity gave me credibility on the floor, a deep understanding of the consumer, and a personal relationship with what movement actually does for a person's life. The content creation background is shaping how we build the brand and tell the story publicly. None of those things felt connected when I was living them. Now I can see exactly how they fit together. Where I am today versus a year ago is a completely different life, but looking back it all makes sense. The path was always leading here, I just couldn't see it until I was in it.

The Ecosystem Is the Advantage

When I talk to investors about what makes HUMN different, the conversation usually starts with the concept, the market opportunity, and the model. But underneath all of that is something harder to replicate. It is the network and the range of relationships that exist across industries, communities, and demographics. I can speak the language of a private equity executive and the language of a 28-year-old hybrid worker who hasn't found a gym that actually fits their life. I can sit with a fitness industry veteran and challenge the playbook, not from the outside but from someone who has been on the floor and studied the consumer for years. That range is not something you can manufacture. It’s built over time across many different rooms and many different versions of yourself.

Building HUMN at the Center of It All

What I’ve come to understand is that my role as the leader of HUMN is not just to run the company. It is to be the connective tissue between all of these worlds. The investor who needs to believe in the operator. The partner who needs to trust the vision. The future member who needs to feel like this place was built for them. All of those relationships run through me and they are all informed by the full range of who I am and where I have been. I couldn't be doing this without the experience, the skill set, and most importantly the network I have built over 38 years. Yes, I am the leader of this company, but this thing is bigger than me and it was built from everything that came before it. That is what a synergistic ecosystem actually looks like from the inside.
