The Season of Building
Over the last year of building HUMN, I have become much more aware of the season of life I am currently in. Life does not move in a straight line. It moves in seasons and each season demands something different from you and right now… I am in a building season.
That realization has brought a surprising amount of clarity into my life. Instead of trying to balance everything equally, I understand that certain priorities must take the lead while others naturally move to the background. Recognizing the season you are in makes decision making simpler.
What a Building Season Looks Like
A building season carries a unique mix of emotions. It is exciting because you are creating something that did not exist before. It is humbling because every week introduces new lessons and challenges you did not anticipate. It can also be lonely. Building a company requires a level of focus that separates you from many of the normal rhythms of life. Social events, dinners, and distractions begin to fade as your attention centers around the work in front of you. At the same time, it is deeply fulfilling. When the work is connected to purpose, the intensity feels less like sacrifice and more like commitment.
Protecting Time and Energy
During this season, I have become very protective of my time and energy. My days follow a rhythm that allows me to show up consistently for the work that matters most. Most mornings begin early with a run before the day fully starts. From there the day moves into meetings, planning, and the countless decisions that come with building a company. Training in the evening helps reset my mind before closing out the day and preparing for the next one. Saturdays are reserved for mental recovery. Taking that time away allows me to return with clarity and energy for the week ahead. Protecting that rhythm is one of the ways I maintain momentum.
The Window of Opportunity
One realization that continues to motivate me is that opportunities like this do not stay open forever. There are always more events to attend, more dinners to join, and more ways to fill time with things that feel productive. But the window to build something meaningful is limited. When that window opens, it requires full attention.
That perspective has changed how I think about my schedule. Instead of asking how much work I have to do in a day, I find myself wishing there were more hours to put into HUMN. That energy comes from knowing that the work is connected to something larger than myself.
Building Something That Lasts
The goal of this season is not simply to build a company. It is to build something that can sustain itself and grow in a world that is constantly changing. Industries evolve, technology advances, and people adapt to new ways of living and working. Building a company that can thrive in that environment requires more than a good idea. It requires discipline, patience, and the willingness to keep learning as the landscape shifts. That is the mindset I bring into this season.
Reflection
Every season of life asks something different from us. Some seasons are about exploring while others are about recovering, learning, or preparing for what comes next. This season is about building.
It is demanding, focused, and sometimes isolating, but it is also incredibly rewarding. When you believe deeply in what you are creating, the long hours and intense focus feel less like pressure and more like responsibility. For me, this season is about taking the opportunity in front of me and building something that can help people live healthier and more connected lives. That makes the work worth every ounce of energy it requires.
